Hexagram 37 · Wind above, Fire below

The Family 家人

Jiā Rén
familyorderresponsibilityconsistency

The Family describes a home where everyone knows their place and love is balanced with order. Peace grows when your words and actions match.

Judgment

It is fortunate for the woman to be steady and true. When everyone in the home takes up their own role, order is established. This inner order is the foundation of everything you do outside.

Wind comes forth from fire. The words of the wise person have substance, and their conduct has constancy.

What does The Family mean?

The Family speaks of the relationships inside a home and the responsibility they carry. The fire in the hearth gives off warmth, and the air it warms spreads through the whole house. The order you build at home spreads outward in the same way. When everyone knows their place, respects one another, and stands behind their word, peace comes naturally. Family here does not mean blood ties alone. Your teammates and closest friends are inside this circle too. When the home is sound, storms outside cannot knock you down. So look first at the people closest to you, and deal with small rifts before they grow.

This period asks you for consistency. Let what you say and what you do be the same. Practice first what you expect from others. Set the rules at the start, clearly and fairly, because fixing things later is much harder. Too much severity hurts people, but too much looseness pulls the home apart. If you must lean one way, a little firmness is better than disorder. The real strength is holding love and respect together. When you lead by example, you do not need to force anything on anyone.

What to do now

Show the order you expect from others through your own conduct first.

Love and relationships

This is a time to make roles and expectations in your relationship clear. Talk openly about who takes on what. Small daily kindnesses and keeping your word build more trust than grand gestures.

Work and money

Clarify who does what in your team or family business. Set fair rules and follow them yourself first. Manage the budget carefully, like someone running a household. When the inside is in order, outside work gets easier.

The lines

If a line changed (red) in your reading, read only that line. Lines are counted from the bottom up.

  1. First line

You set limits and rules for the household right from the start. This way you head off situations you would later regret.

  2. Second line

You do not impose your own will. You carefully take care of the household, the meals, and the care of others. This quiet, steady service brings good fortune.

  3. Third line

Being too harsh with the household brings regret and danger, yet in the end it turns out well. If the women and children laugh and play without restraint, it ends in shame.

  4. Fourth line

You enrich the home. The family's well-being grows through your hands. Great good fortune.

  5. Fifth line

The king draws near to his family. You lead with love, and there is no need for fear. Do not worry, the outcome is good.

  6. Top line

Your sincerity and dignity win everyone's respect. In the end, good fortune.
