Splitting Apart 剝

Bō

Splitting Apart shows a structure worn away from below. Do not fight the tide now; protect your foundation and the seed that will sprout again.

Judgment

It is not favorable to go anywhere. Steps taken while the dark forces are rising are wasted. Wait quietly and keep your foundation firm.

Image

The mountain rests upon the earth. Those above secure their own place by being generous to those below.

What does Splitting Apart mean?

A structure is slowly being worn away from below. Five dark lines have risen from the bottom, and only one light remains at the very top. This is a period when things turn against you and what is valuable is being gnawed away. The cause may not be your mistake. The flow of time is simply like this now. Like a mountain sinking into the earth, what stood high is losing its support. This is not easy to accept. But seeing the truth tires you less than fighting it in vain. If you recognize the situation as it is, you can more easily choose what to protect and what to let go.

In times like this, resisting is usually useless. Quarreling, forcing and making big moves wear you down even more. What is asked of you is patience. Stay quiet, conserve your strength and hold on only to what truly matters. Treat the people around you well; a solid foundation protects everything above it. Everything has its season. This splitting apart is not permanent either. In the end the last fruit falls, and the seed inside it sprouts again. Whatever has been lost, what is good finds its way back. For now, focus only on protecting that seed. The rest will come by itself in time.

What to do now

Make no big move today; protect your foundation and wait.

Love and relationships

You may feel a cooling or wearing down in the relationship. Trying to fix it by force may not work right now. Stay calm, take good care of yourself and think about what is truly valuable.

Work and money

A hard period at work; support is shrinking and conditions are getting tougher. Not the time for big investments or risks. Cut costs, protect what you have and keep your core relationships strong.

The lines

If a line changed (red) in your reading, read only that line. Lines are counted from the bottom up.

  1. First line

The legs of the bed are broken. Rightness is destroyed. Misfortune. The wearing away has started at the very bottom, at the foundation; all you can do is be careful and wait.

  2. Second line

The frame of the bed is broken. Rightness is destroyed. Misfortune. Danger is approaching and there is no support at your side; be cautious and do not be stubborn.

  3. Third line

He breaks with them. No blame. You are in a bad circle, but you are separating from it and joining what is right; this is the right choice.

  4. Fourth line

The bed has collapsed and reached the skin. Misfortune. The danger is now right at your side, too close to retreat from. Do everything you can to protect yourself.

  5. Fifth line

Like a string of fish, he leads the palace ladies in a line. Favor is found, and everything goes well. Even the dark forces bow to the light; with right leadership the situation improves.

  6. Top line

A great fruit remains uneaten. The wise person gains a carriage, while the house of the petty person falls. The last good thing is kept and sprouts again; what is right finds support in the end.
